This annual report captures the extent and nature of activities undertaken by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in collaboration with other agencies and divisions of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Collaborative efforts enable the NIH to work across the Department to cultivate partnerships, leveraging the respective strengths of all HHS agencies to support the HHS mission and strengthen the public health ecosystem. NIH's collaborative efforts with other HHS agencies are vital to transforming fundamental scientific knowledge into useful applications that reach all Americans, such as disease treatments, preventive interventions, protective health policies and regulations, and public health campaigns. Information gathered by other HHS agencies on public health needs, in turn, informs the policies and priorities of NIH-funded research. In sum, effective cross-Department collaboration helps ensure that the health and well-being of Americans is being well-served by the policies, programs, and regulatory and service activities carried out by the Department of Health and Human Services.
