The National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR) brings together four of the nation’s leading research funders – the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) – to address the problem of childhood obesity in America. The mission of the National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR) is to improve the efficiency, effectiveness and application of childhood obesity research and to halt—and reverse—the current childhood obesity trend through enhanced coordination and collaboration. NCCOR focuses on efforts that have the potential to benefit children, teens, their families, and the communities in which they live. A special emphasis is put on the populations and communities in which obesity rates are highest and rising the fastest. NCCOR accelerates progress to reduce childhood obesity in the United States by maximizing outcomes from research, building the capacity for research and surveillance, creating and supporting the mechanisms and infrastructure needed for research translation and dissemination, and supporting evaluations. |
