Description of Collaborative Activity: |
Fogarty International Center (FIC), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), and the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves are supporting Global Environmental and Occupational Health (GEOHealth) Hubs. These are regional hubs based at low- or middle-income country (LMIC) institutions focused on collaborative research, data management, training, curriculum development, and policy support around high-priority local, national, and regional environmental and occupational health threats. The expectation is that GEOHealth Hubs will become the lead resources for environmental and occupational health, attract and retain the best talent in the region, and provide the scientific evidence for policy formulation. Together all regional hubs supported will form the GEOHealth Network, a platform for coordinated environmental and occupational health research and research training activities. FIC and its partners are supporting linked U2R and U01 awards to US and LMIC institutions, respectively. In FY19, CDC/NIOSH contributed in kind time and expertise to the program. |
