National Robotics Initiative

Description of Collaborative Activity:

The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) created the National Robotics Initiative to promote research in a variety of robot-related topics. This initiative is multifaceted and has included grant solicitations, workshops, meetings, and information exchange among the agencies involved. NIH joined as a major civilian aspect of this coordinated inter-agency plan which incorporates the following funding agencies: National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, National Aeronautics and Space Agency, U.S. Department of Agriculture (NIFA). Specifically, NIH has joined with NSF, USDA, and NASA to solicit R01 application in robotics. NICHD is focused on the human/machine interaction aspect of incorporating robots into the healthcare and rehabilitation systems, with particular emphasis on the needs of people with disabilities.
