Title of Collaborative Activity:

Working Group on the Intersection of HIV/AIDS, Violence Against Women and Gender-related Health Disparities

Description of Collaborative Activity:

Led by the Office of National AIDS Policy and the US Office of the Vice President, this working group meets once a month via conference calls or in person, as scheduled in advance. This working group was established to respond to one of President’s Obama’s early priorities addressing the domestic HIV/AIDS epidemic. In keeping with the Administration’s commitment to addressing HIV/AIDS, on March 30, 2012, President Obama issued a Presidential Memorandum committing the Administration “to improving efforts to understand and address the intersection of HIV/AIDS, violence against women and girls, and gender-related health disparities.” The memorandum also established an Interagency Federal Working Group and directed Federal agencies to invest resources, focus and coordinate efforts, and share best practices. The working group published a report in September 2013 and since then updated it in October 2014. These reports provide overviews of the efforts to implement the Working Group’s recommendations, Federal activities and community strategies that address the recommendations and next steps needed to further this initiative.
