Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC)

Description of Collaborative Activity:

In accordance with the Autism Collaboration, Accountability, Research, Education, and Support (CARES) Act of 2014, the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC), a federal advisory committee, is charged with coordinating all efforts with the Department of HHS and across member federal agencies concerning autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The committee was established in an effort to accelerate progress in ASD biomedical research and services efforts by improving coordination and communication across the Federal Government and by working in partnership with the autism community. The committee is composed of officials from many different federal agencies involved in autism research and services, as well as adults on the autism spectrum, parents and family members, advocates, researchers, and other community stakeholders. Member agencies include NIH, CDC, FDA, CMS, ACL, ACF, AHRQ, and HRSA within HHS, as well as the Department of Education, Department of Defense, and the Environmental Protection Agency. In accordance with the Autism CARES Act, the committee is charged with providing advice to the HHS Secretary regarding activities and issues related to ASD. The IACC is also tasked with developing and annually updating a strategic plan for ASD research, monitoring federal activities related to autism, and preparing an annual summary of advances in ASD research.
