Title of Collaborative Activity:

Media-Smart Youth Campaign Outreach

Description of Collaborative Activity:

In FY15, the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) coordinated with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships to promote the Media-Smart Youth: Eat, Think, and Be Active! health education curriculum. NICHD staff led a training webinar, hosted by the Partnership Center, to train 200 leaders across the country in implementing Media-Smart Youth. In addition, NICHD received valuable input from the Partnership Center about possible outreach strategies, which helped lead to a successful outreach pilot program in FY15, the Media-Smart Youth Teen Leaders. Through this program, groups of teens--with adult supervision--implemented the Media-Smart Youth program at 50 sites around the county. This approach increased awareness and use of NICHD’s Media-Smart Youth curriculum, while cutting costs of each program by 80%, as compared to a previous community mini-grant program.
