Title of Collaborative Activity:

Trans-NIH Topics for Twitter chats

Description of Collaborative Activity:

The NICHD plays an active role in social media, including leading Twitter chats on different topics within its mission. Often these topics also fall into the portfolios of other NIH Institutes and Centers, so the NICHD reaches out to those Institutes to request their participation, which provides a broader range of research-based information to chat participants. For example, the NICHD led a Twitter chat about the teen brain in collaboration with ABC News' Chief Health and Medical Editor, Dr. Richard Besser, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the HHS Office of Adolescent Health. The chat was well attended, 44,400,000 impressions made; 1,800 tweets posted; and 439 users. In addition to NUMH, the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute on Alcoholism and Alcohol Abuse also participated in the chat.
