Title of Collaborative Activity:

AHRQ/CMS/Duke Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) Comparative Effectiveness Review: Lower Extremity Peripheral Venous Disease, Excluding Acute Deep Vein Thrombosis.

Description of Collaborative Activity:

This systematic review will focus on the diagnosis and management of chronic venous disease in outpatient and inpatient settings where care is coordinated by primary care physicians, vascular surgeons, vascular medicine specialists, cardiologists, and/or radiologists. In developing this comprehensive review, the rules of evidence and evaluation of strength of evidence recommended by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)’s Evidence-based Practice Center (EPC) Program in its Methods Guide for Effectiveness and Comparative Effectiveness Reviews (hereafter referred to as the Methods Guide) apply. This review will solicit feedback regarding conduct of the work (such as development of search strategies and identifying outcomes of key importance) from the Task Order Officer (TOO) and the Technical Expert Panel (TEP). The project will follow the methodology recommended by the EPCs for literature search strategies, inclusion/exclusion of studies in review, abstract screening, data abstraction and management, assessment of methodological quality of individual studies, data synthesis, and grading of evidence for each key questions.
