Interagency Working Group on Neuroscience

Description of Collaborative Activity:

By Executive Order, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy established the Interagency Working Group on Neuroscience (IWGN) by action of the National Science and Technology Council. The purpose of the group is to foster collaboration across agencies and to coordinate federal investments in neuroscience research. The IWGN coordinates activities in neuroscience research across the Federal Government with a focus on the fundamental understanding of learning, brain development and plasticity, and brain health and recovery. The IWGN enhances federal efforts related to: improving our understanding of learning and cognition, and applying this understanding to improvements in education and other areas; improving our understanding of a variety of neurological conditions and injuries; and developing appropriate resources, tools, techniques, interventions, and therapies to assist in research, treatment, and recovery. The IWGN includes members from the Departments of Agriculture, Defense, Education, Energy, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Justice, and Veterans Affairs, as well as the Central Intelligence Agency, Environmental Protection Agency, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, the National Science Foundation, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
