Scientific Advisory Working Group for Development of Products for Mulitpurpose Prevention Technology

Description of Collaborative Activity:

The initiative for development of products for multipurpose prevention technology is a collaborative effort involving governmental and non-governmental agencies involved in research and development of therapeutic products that are designed for more than one indication. The indications include contraception as well as prevention of infection with HIV or other pathogens that can cause sexually transmitted infections (HSV, HPV, gonorrhea, chlamydia, etc). The collaborating agencies serving on the committee include the Office of Research on Women’s Health, NIAID, NICHD, USAID and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The Advisory Group’s main activities have been to identify gaps in product development efforts, create the desired target product profiles depending on the indications for the products, to communicate activities within the MPT field and to provide complementary expertise across the different fields of research.
