Title of Collaborative Activity:

National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR)

Description of Collaborative Activity:

Launched in 2009, the National Collaborative on Childhood Obesity Research (NCCOR) brings together four of the nation’s leading research funders — the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF), and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) — to accelerate progress in reducing childhood obesity in America. These leading national organizations: work in tandem to manage projects and reach common goals; coordinate funding to make the most of available resources; and share insights and expertise to strengthen research. NCCOR focuses on efforts that have the potential to benefit children, teens, and their families, and the communities in which they live. In September 2019, NCCOR launched four new Measures Registry Learning Modules, videos that assist researchers and practitioners with choosing the best measures across the four domains of: individual diet, food environment, individual physical activity and physical activity environment. Also, in 2019 NCCOR held the first two in a series of three workshops, supported by The JPB Foundation, aimed at understanding what we need to measure to solve the childhood obesity crisis: 1) Advancing measurement of individual behaviors related to childhood obesity. 2) Advancing measurement for high-risk populations and communities related to childhood obesity.
