Title of Collaborative Activity:

CounterACT Research Network Steering Committee

Description of Collaborative Activity:

The CounterACT program is a translational research program supporting basic, translational, and clinical research aimed at the discovery and/or identification of better therapeutic medical countermeasures and/or diagnostic technologies against chemical threat agents, and facilitates their movement through the regulatory process in collaboration with other federal departments and agencies, such as the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (HHS BARDA). The program includes a comprehensive network of Research Centers of Excellence, individual co-operative research projects, small business innovation research grants, contracts, and interagency agreements with the Department of Defense. Among other activities, National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) organizes an annual meeting of investigators supported by the program allowing researchers to share information, encourage collaboration, and enable National Institutes of Health (NIH) staff to evaluate the group’s progress on themes such as nerve agents, seizure detection technology, cyanide, and sulfur mustard.
