Description of Collaborative Activity:

The HHS Data Council is the principal internal advisory body to the Secretary on health and human services data policy. The Council coordinates data collection and analysis activities in HHS, including an integrated data collection strategy as well as coordination of health data standards and privacy policy. The Council consists of senior level officials designated by their agency and staff office heads, the director of the national center for health statistics, and the HHS privacy advocate. It is co-chaired by the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation on a permanent basis and the head of an operating division on a rotating basis. A subcommittee of the HHS Data Council, the Data-Oriented Workforce Subcommittee, is composed of staff from 10 HHS agencies, including the NIH. This subcommittee is charged with developing a high-level work plan to enhance the data science capacity of HHS’ workforce by identifying training opportunities for existing staff, recruitment strategies and tools to hire new staff, and retention and succession planning strategies to sustain the data science workforce.
