Description of Collaborative Activity: |
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Health Communications and Information Work Group provides a forum for health education and communications staff from National Institutes of Health (NIH) Institutes, Centers, and Offices to share strategies and effective communication approaches to develop and disseminate health information to American Indian and Alaska Native communities. In collaboration with the Indian Health Service (IHS) and the Administration on Aging/Administration for Community Living (AoA/ACL), the Work Group conducts outreach to approximately 1600 IHS Community Health Representatives (CHRs) and 270 AoA/ACL Title VI grantees nationwide through the e-newsletter, Honoring Health: Resources for American Indians and Alaska Natives. The e-newsletter features a wide range of NIH resources and is distributed to IHS CHRs, AoA/ACL grantees, and other subscribed individuals that provide services to Native communities. The purpose of the project is to increase awareness among CHRs and Title VI grantees about the availability of free or low-cost, science-based health information for patients and the general public. |
