Title of Collaborative Activity:

Working Groups to Develop HIV/AIDS Treatment and Prevention Guidelines

Description of Collaborative Activity:

There are five Office of AIDS Research Advisory Council (OARAC) Working Groups to maintain updated federally approved medical practice guidelines for HIV/AIDS Treatment and the Prevention of HIV Transmission from Mother to Infant. The five working groups are the 1) Panel on Antiretroviral Guidelines for Adults and Adolescents, 2) Panel on Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Infected Adults and Adolescents, 3) Panel on Antiretroviral Therapy and Medical Management of Children Living with HIV, 4) Panel on Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Exposed and HIV-Infected Children, and 5) Panel on Treatment of Pregnant Women with HIV Infection and Prevention of Perinatal Transmission. The HIV/AIDS Treatment and Prevention Guideline Panels update guidelines for HIV/AIDS care providers with the most current information on combination antiretroviral therapy, treatment and prevention of opportunistic infections for people with HIV; the prevention of HIV transmission from an infected mother to her infant; and the safety and efficacy of HIV/AIDS therapies.
