Description of Collaborative Activity: |
The NICHD convened a Trans-Agency Working Group to plan a conference focused on the health of children and families living in rural communities. The conference was held on December 1-2, 2011 at the NIH. Collaborators were NIDCR, OBSSR, NINR, NIMH, NIDA, NHLBI, and NCI. The DHHS OMH and OWH, AHRQ, IHS, HRSA, USDA and NRHA were also collaborators. The purpose of the conference was to bring together community members, researchers, health professionals, educators, policy makers, and members of professional organizations to identify gaps in research and address emerging differences between health outcomes for children and families living in rural communities compared to those in urban areas. The conference serves as a catalyst to stimulate collaborative research to fully understand the determinants and health consequences for those living in rural areas. |
