The Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) is creating a "National Robotics Initiative" to promote research in a variety of robot-related topics. NIH has been asked to join as a major civilian aspect of this coordinated inter-agency plan which will incorporate agencies from the Departments of Defense, Education, Health and Human Services, and Commerce. The National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research would like to issue a Program Announcement focusing on the human/machine interaction aspect of incorporating robots into the healthcare and rehabilitation system, with particular emphasis on the needs of people with disabilities. The goal is not to develop robotic technologies, but to understand the human factors required for successful integration. |
