Title of Collaborative Activity:

Interagency Modeling and Analysis Group (IMAG)

Description of Collaborative Activity:

IMAG is comprised of program directors from over 10 government agencies including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the National Science Foundation (NSF), Department of Energy (DOE), Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of Agriculture (USDA), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the Department of Veterans Administration (VA), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA). The purpose of IMAG is to bring together program staff who have a shared interest in supporting modeling and analysis methods in biomedical, biological, and behavioral systems. Since 2003, IMAG has promoted and supported a wide variety of modeling, notably multi-scale modeling (MSM) through agency-specific funding opportunity announcements. IMAG and the MSM Consortium is active through monthly IMAG meetings, MSM Steering Committee meetings and individual working group and special interest group activities (see activities on the IMAG wiki). IMAG is now co-chaired with program staff from NIBIB, NCCIH and NIAID. In 2022, IMAG and the MSM updated its Mission statement (see 2023 Mission Statement). TheMultiscale Modeling and Viral Pandemics working group celebrated its second anniversary, published several publications, including a book, and continues to hold weekly recorded webinars with participants from several IMAG agencies, including NIH, CDC, FDA, NSF and DOD and the associated extramural communities. Additionally in 2022, IMAG and the MSM began planning its return to in-person (hybrid) Consortium meeting for June 2023 on the NIH Campus.
